Nature Quest
July 8-12, 2019

Country Focus: Costa Rica 

Experience Spanish and nature together like never before!  Highlights from this week include:

  • Travel far away to explore the rainforests and lush natural habitats of Costa Rica through cutting-edge virtual and augmented reality.
  • Create a bilingual nature journal with specimens collected from our local outdoor environment.
  • Conduct a Latin fruit and veggie taste test, documenting your results in your Spanish journal. Play nature-themed outdoor games with amigos.
  • Plant tropical herbs and customize your pot en español!

Students strengthen their spoken and bi-literacy Spanish skills with special projects they take home at the end of their week-long immersive Nature Quest!

*Campers receive a daily snack, time for lunch, and all activity supplies.  Campers bring their lunch from home.

Art Extravaganza
July 15-19, 2019

Country Focus: Mexico & Guatemala

Discover and create beautiful multi-cultural art in a fun-filled Spanish immersive adventure.  Highlights from this week include:

  • Travel abroad through virtual reality to view outdoor street murals and traditional indigenous artistry.
  • Inspired by the shapes, sounds and colors of Mexican and Guatemalan art traditions, students will use a wide assortment of materials to create:
    • edible crafts such as flores de fruta (fruit flowers)
    • non-edible crafts such as papel picado

Students will learn about the most influential cities/towns in the Mexican and Guatemalan art landscape. They will use Spanish to describe the geography, shapes, colors and textures of Latin art. They will learn an array of language structures to express their preferences and verbs for creative actions they engage in (drawing, cutting, separating, etc). All students will to take home their projects at the end of the week.
